Each class, ages 2-4 years old, spends 45 minutes to 1 hour on the playground every day (weather permitting). The children have free play and are able to work on large motor skills such as climbing steps, balancing, jumping, throwing balls, running, and riding tricycles. The playground area is shaded, fenced, and has a restroom and water fountain. It includes a covered sandbox, bike path, jogging path, basketball goal, climbers, and slides.

Florida law states that students should have 150 minutes of physical education a week. At CH&BS, our students have formal P.E. Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday and then recess (free play) on Wednesday and Friday. Everyone stretches at the beginning of class and each grade level is asked to run or walk laps each day if they are able (approximately one-half mile).
Organized sports and activities are taught at all grade levels. In grades K-2 emphasis is placed on fine motor skills as the students learn about organized sports. In grades 3-5 these fine motor skills are also developed, while the rules and techniques of various sports are taught. Working with others as a team is a priority.
The Elementary Physical Education department has its own fenced in playground area with swing sets, slides, a see-saw, jungle gym, monkey bars, and climbers. The outdoor playground has access to shaded benches, restrooms, and water fountains. Weather permitting, the children play outdoors. In inclement weather, the children exercise in a large indoor play room with exercise balls, jump ropes, and other games and equipment.
Every year the Elementary Physical Education program is involved in Jump Rope for Heart and the Presidential Fitness Challenge.
